A favourite collage, ‘Little House‘, previously exhibited at the Artworks exhibition, is included in this special exhibition, which celebrates the colourful world of small art, a perfect accompaniment to the international mini-prints on show in the adjacent gallery.

Jazz Green: Cley 16 Contemporary Art exhibition

Jazz Green is currently exhibiting new work in Cley 16: In Norfolk Now, an annual exhibition of contemporary art in the beautiful setting of St Margaret’s church in Cley-next-the-Sea in north Norfolk. Additional artworks selected for Cley 16 are located at Cley Windmill Shop, Crabpot Bookshop and the Norfolk Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre. There is also a programme of events, including creative workshops, musical concerts, curator talks and seminars.

Cley 16: In Norfolk Now is open daily 10am to 5.30pm, 7 July – 7 August 2016.

Cley 16 is organised by The North Norfolk exhibition Project (NNEP). The NNEP was established in 2000 to develop opportunities for innovative and contemporary art in North Norfolk. The NNEP is now widely regarded for its summer exhibitions of contemporary art, originally at Salthouse from 2001-2011, moving to Cley in 2012. Each year a different curator is chosen to select artists from an advertised ‘Open Call’. The shortlisted artists meet the curator at the Church in the new year to discuss plans and ideas for the exhibition. In 2016 Hugh Pilkington, artist, curator and award-winning architect, selected seventy three artists from two hundred artist applications, both a record number of applicants and shortlisted artists for this renowned regional exhibition.

cley16-art-exhibition-church-2016

From the Cley 16: In Norfolk Now curator, Hugh Pilkington:
The works demonstrate a wide range of practice from pure abstraction to representation: the abstracted landscape to the photographic; the sculptural – small works, maquettes for larger works, and floor-based pieces; and a group of artists working with fabric and stitch in the chancel of the church. There are installations and interventions, and site-specific work on the beach and around the church. We are pleased to include that remarkable organisation, Barrington Farm, whose members are showing work in the church and the Norfolk Wildlife Trust Visitors Centre. For the first time the Fine Art MA course at the University of the Arts in Norwich are participating as a group and the students have been using the exhibition as a live art project.

Ten Artworks artists in Ad Libitum Art Exhibition

More exhibition news on the Artworks blog!

Ten Artworks artists (past & present) have paintings currently on show at the stunning venue, The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds this November. The exhibition is called Ad Libitum, in reference to artists having a ‘free hand’ in their work.

All the work in the exhibition is new to Artworks, having not been exhibited in any previous Artworks exhibitions. The light & space of the upstairs gallery is a wonderful backdrop to everyone’s work – we hope you will visit if you are in the area!

The nine Artworks artists featured in this show are: Mike Ashley, Gillian Crossley-Holland, Helen Dougall, Helen Du Feu, Janet French, Jazz Green, Eleonora Knowland, Marianne Koby-Johnson, Katie Millard and Gabrielle Stoddart.

Some exhibition photographs will be posted shortly. The exhibition, Ad Libitum, runs from 29th October to 28th November 2012 (full details below).

Welcome back to the Artworks shop!

A few words from Gillian Crossley-Holland, a founder member of Artworks, who oversees and organises the Artworks shop each year. Please note: This text refers to the Artworks exhibition & shop in 2012:
It is our thirteenth exhibition and I think this is one of our best shows ever. The main barn looks very striking with the three dimensional work displayed on tall plinths which flow back the length of the barn – including Carol Pask’s bold ceramic works, Lizzie Saunder’s intriguing geometric shapes, Genista Dunham’s large and exciting papier mache bowls, the beautiful glass work of Virginia Wright, not forgetting Jenny Goater’s successful wire sculptures (also a founder member of Artworks). There is, of course, all the wonderful paintings on the walls, in every 2D media, from traditional oils to mixed media collage and acrylics.
Our Private View evening was great, with lots of familiar faces but also a number of new people visiting, a real buzz, and many sales of artwork, large and small. Meanwhile, it was back to Blackthorpe barn very early the next morning to meet the Shop Team and set up the Artworks shop & cafe.
Having finished getting the shop ready with the walls, tables and browsers filled up with artists work, I always feel I should have a little treat to celebrate – something lovely from the main exhibition or the Artworks shop, even if it’s just a few artists cards.
Papier mache bowls by Jazz Green
Last year it was a papier mache bowl by Jazz Green, tender and golden, and a wonderful print by Ben Quail.
This year it was another papier mache bowl (I have a collection) by Genista Dunham – it is so merry and colourful.
Papier mache bowls by Genista Dunham, and glass sculptures by Liz Waugh-McManus
The shop is now beautifully set up and running alongside the main Artworks exhibition, and as always, there is a wonderful range of artworks and cards to browse and buy.
Cards by Valerie Armstrong (left) and Penny Bhadresa (right), Carol Pask ceramics (centre)

I love looking round my home and seeing various artworks I have bought and remembering their makers and all the wonderful artists I’ve worked alongside these last thirteen years with Artworks.
