Valerie Armstrong

After a deeply painful and life changing event in my life, I have struggled to return to the nourishment of my creative core. In the last few months I have managed to return to the studio and dip back into my past as an art therapist. My painting has become a path to emotional healing. In these works I visit the unknown, the unexpected and the dreams in an intuitive and fluid outpouring of self-expression.

Biography
After graduating from Croydon College of Art, Valerie spent a year in Sweden working in the design studios of a ceramic factory. Following this, she moved to Paris for four years to paint, and to work for a publishing House specialising in facsimiles of William Blake.

In 1976, having gained a post graduate qualification as an art therapist, Valerie began twelve years working in psychiatric hospitals and therapeutic centres as an art therapist. After moving to Suffolk with two small children, Valerie set up her own business making painted folding screens to commission.

In recent years, a fascination for experimental printmaking, collage and layered mixed media has taken her in a new direction, to a more experimental and abstract way of working.
